Laurel Burch Fabrics

Laurel Burch was born with a rare bone disease, osteopetrosis. At the age of 14, she left her tumultuous home life with only a paper bag of clothing.

She began to make jewelry made from old coins, beads and bones and the phenomenon of collecting Laurel Burch began as these artifacts found their way into the lives of people across the country.

She taught herself to paint and seldom put her brushes down, even when she was confined to a wheelchair or the bed. Her art conveys a sense of joy, passion and lightness. The explosion of her colors is irresistable.

Laurel Burch was a fabric designer for Clothworks Textiles. Her Fabric Designs shared the grace of birds in flight, the warmth of friendships, the exquisite beauty and mysteries of the earth and the preciousness of life.

September 13, 2007 the Fabric World lost Laurel Burch. She passed away due to complications from her bone disease. Through her artwork and fabric, her spirit will continue to brighten our world.

She will be greatly missed.
