Chenille is a unique type of fabric that gets it name from the process that creates it.
 
Chenille is manufactured by wrapping short lengths of fabric around a tightly wound core of yarn.  The edges stand at right angles from the core which gives the Chenille its look and softness.

Chenille dates back to the eighteenth century. In the 1930s, it was a popular fabric used in throws, bedspreads and carpets. It became popular in apparel in the 1970s. Standards of production were introduced in the 1990s.
 
Chenille Fabrics are to be dry cleaned or hand washed and should never be hung due to stretching.
