Nylon Fabrics

Nylon is a silky material that was first used in 1938 in toothbrush bristles.  It was then used in women's stockings.

Nylon was the first synthetic fiber to be made entirely from coal, water and air.  It was first intended as a substitute for silk, and replaced silk in military applications, such as parachutes, in World War II.

Nylon fibers are used in bridal veils, carpeting, musical strings, rope and fabric.  The fibers are related chemically to the protein fibers silk and wool.
